Why Am I Proud to be a Rotarian?

Home

On July 27 we were again Red Wing's first to be introduced to the 2010 Miss Red Wing candidates. These nine young women each presented a historical perspective on Red Wing. The coronation changes this year to the end of River City Days, on Sunday, Aug. 8 at Red Wing High School.

On July 20 we were introduced to our new District 5960 Governor, Craig Leiser, who gave a rousing talk about the goals of the district and Rotary International for this year. Internationally, Rotary is still working to eradicate polio as its number one priority. For the district, Craig wants each club to have a water resource project this year. He also wants us to not only have fun, but to make our activities rewarding.

We also found out that our very own recent past president Meg Walch is an assistant governor for the District. Congratulations, Meg! The club's board of directors also met with the new governor before the meeting for a strategy session.

Past governor and club member Lee Finholm was recognized by Gov. Leiser for his hard work with the Rotary Foundation.

Club member Jerry Borgen showed us signs that will go next to trees at Pottery Pond recognizing members that have passed on.

We hold energetic one-hour meetings in the historic St. James Hotel in downtown Red Wing, Minnesota. Rotarian visitors are welcome!

Located less than an hour from both the Twin Cities and Rochester, on the Wisconsin border, Red Wing's 16,000 residents enjoy a high quality of life and generations of community pride.

Meg Walch
Red Wing Rotary Club President
2009-2010

Welcome and thank you for visiting the Red Wing Rotary website!

Whether you are a member who frequents this site for the latest Rotary news or a first time visitor curious about what Rotary is, you will find all things Rotary here.

I am excited to be appointed to preside over the Rotary Club of Red Wing for the 2009-2010 year. I am humbled by the confidence the Red Wing Club has placed in me. The Rotary Four Way Test is more than a credo…it is the measure by which we can make ANY decision. Using it along with the Rotary's motto, Service Above Self, we can achieve amazing things.

I have been a Rotarian for five years. I was Secretary, Vice President and Program Chairperson. I attended my first Rotary International Convention in 2005, our Centennial year. The concept of World Peace becomes possible when you have the opportunity to see Rotarians gathered from around the world!!

Rotary has given me and my family opportunities we never dreamed possible. My husband Chris and I have three children, 19 year old Joe, 17 year old Sarah and 13 year old Hannah. Our son Joe spent 2008-2009 in Japan through the Rotary Youth Exchange Program. He is set to begin college in the fall and based on his experience abroad plans to study International Relations. Our family also includes the youth we have hosted through the Rotary Youth Exchange program: Mariko from Hiroshima, Japan, Gabi from Brazil and Sebastian from Ecuador. Our family is truly worldwide.

Again, thank you for visiting our web site. I invite you to learn more about Rotary and consider supporting Rotary in your area and becoming a member!
