STRIVE (Students Taking
Renewed Interest in the Value of Education) is a youth mentoring
program that was developed right here in our own district in the
1990s and has since migrated to Rotary clubs throughout the world.
It is a program for
high school seniors who have faced some academic challenges but
want to make the most of their last year of high school. Students
who choose to participate in STRIVE are matched with an adult
mentor from the local Rotary Club. Mentors are not tutors, but
are there to offer support, encouragement and assistance.
STRIVE District Coordinator
Bill Brueck will be our speaker today. This is a program Red Wing
Rotary can develop for our youth in the community.

Fast
For Hope is a 'non-meal' meal tradition where we have a simple meal
of soup and bread to bring attention to the needs of our community.
There is a sufficient food supply to feed the Earth's population.
But the problem is the distribution of food. Every year 16,000 children
die from hunger-related causes. Our guest speaker, Lynne Rigg, will
give you a 'taste' of the hunger situation in our world, our country,
and yes, even in Red Wing. |
