Red Wing Rotarians who were part of GSE Teams

Mongolia

June 22, 1999

Lee Finholm arrived safely in Red Wing after traveling to Mongolia with the Rotary GSE Team. Mongolia is like the old west frontier and has only one large city that has any development. Russian jeeps, camels and horses were the mode of travel and open holes in the dirt were the only "facilities." There are many opportunities for service projects in this country and the district will be looking at those in the future. We welcome Lee back and look forward to hearing his report and seeing his slides.

Philippines

June 29, 1999

Our team of speakers today were Ann Barsness and Lisa Marty, who were our Group Study Exchange members who visited the Philippines this last March in conjunction with Rotary International. Ann, who is a writer with the Rep. Eagle and Lisa, who is a computer programmer with Red Wing Shoe, spent 5 weeks in the country living with and learning from other Rotarian members. They shared with us stories of the food they ate, the poverty they witnessed, the religious fervor that was expressed and the very welcome feeling that they felt in this land. They were glad to be our ambassadors as we were lucky to have them represent our town and our club.
